Voting Question: How hard would it be to move to Southern California now?

27 April 2010, 5:59 pm

I want to move to SoCal. (For various reasons). We currently live in Oregon. Family: 5 - Lawyer/Prosecutor, RN (Nurse), kids: 14, 9, 2 2 story (basement), 4 bed, 2 1/2 bath OR house - When we bought it almost 4 years ago it was ~350,000 (got a better price for it) Lived in California (Pasadena) for a short time when dad was going to school and moved a few months after first child was born. How would would it be to get jobs for a lawyer & nurse? Are there any good cities/neighborhoods that are affordable ($3-4K?), how a low crime rate, good schools and things to do? (shopping, activities for families...) I've seen decent houses in nicer parts of Fresno. It's be nice to have a yard (mostly to garden and hang out/entertain in, but nothing that requires a lot of maintenance.) I was looking at: Parts of OC, LA County and San Diego. Found houses in *Winchester, Vista, Brentwood, San Marcos, Westwood, Murrietta, Clovis... Anything on these places? Any other suggestions from people who have actually lived in Southern California/OC/LA? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I would like to know what the "feel" is like, how the community is. Another thing is, we don't want to live in a place where the air pollution is really really bad. I know traffic is unavoidable. We have old friends & family in SoCal so that plays a great factor in the desire to move. It's either that or Oklahoma (job offer). We are going down to Brea and Santa Monica this summer. I would consider living in South Pasadena but that's not exactly in our price range. We don't exactly want to "tighten our belts". Right now my only house-sources are http://www.trulia.com and http://homes.realestate.signonsandiego.c…... Read More »
